Bankruptcy – Free Initial Consulation – What Do I Need to Bring?

If you are considering filing bankruptcy in Georgia and wish to take advantage of a free initial consultation, you do not  have to bring anything to my office.  Many of my clients are a bit apprehensive before filing bankruptcy and some feel a bit intimidated by bankruptcy attorneys.  They may have heard stories about some nasty old attorney that chewed out their friend.  I assure you that will not happen in my office.

My goal in every free initial consultation is to show any potential client how easy it is to speak with me and to eliminate any fears that they may have.  You don’t have worry about the pressure of gathering documents if all you want to do is to get some general answers about how bankruptcy may apply to your situation.  If filing bankruptcy is a good or bad idea for you, I will take the time to explain why.

However, if you are in an emergency situation and you need to file bankruptcy as soon as possible, you need to bring me all of your paystubs for the last six months, your most recent tax return, and a list of every debt you owe.  My office needs these documents to prepare your bankruptcy court papers.

During every free initial consultation, I will ask you where you work and how much you make.  My purpose is to create a realistic budget and to get feel for your situation.  After I feel like I have a good handle on your income situation, we will talk about your monthly expenses.  I will want to know how much money you pay out each month for your rent or mortgage payment.  How much do you spend on gas for your car each month?  How much do you spend on food each month?

I will also ask you which creditor is giving you the most problems.  I need to know if you are facing foreclosure, automobile repossession or garnishment of your paycheck.

I will try to answer any questions you may have and come up with a plan that works for you.  I look forward to meeting you!

As a general rule, I personally cover some appointments in the Rome office and phone appointments.  My associates, Jessi Glover and Brian Deitz cover appointments in Dalton, Dallas, Marietta, Kennesaw and Cartersville.
