What Kind of Turtle Are You? (Keep yourself from Shelling from Debt)

turtleRecently, I was walking through a neighborhood in Kennesaw, GA and came across this large turtle.  When I moved in close to take a picture of this monstrosity, he charged at me!  I was absolutely shocked by this aggressive behavior from a turtle.  I just about jumped out of my skin.  My ears may have deceived me, but I think I heard this nasty thing growl at me.

I thought a turtle was supposed to crawl back into their shell and hope that danger would just go away.  Apparently, a snapping turtle, is much more aggressive than their smaller counterparts.

I wonder how many creditors expect debtors to crawl into their shell whenever they are threatened with collection lawsuits and other collection efforts.  Some people probably look like easy targets to collectors.

Should you crawl into a shell?

Crawling into a shell is a common response for many people when they are under a tremendous amount of stress.  Many people struggle through economic hardship through no fault of their own.  For some, it is a divorce.  For others, it is a loss of job.  Some people will experience medical catastrophes like cancer and heart attacks.  When the sky is falling down on top of you, it  can be tempting to crawl into a shell and ignore reality.  However, this response won’t make the problem go away.

Dangers of crawling into a shell in Georgia

In Georgia, a creditor can garnish up to 25 percent of your take home pay.  In addition, they can clean out your checking account and/or put a lien on your house.

The good news is that you can fight back.  A Chapter 13 and Chapter 7 bankruptcy filing will stop collection efforts.  In some cases, all of your debt can be eliminated.

A Chapter 13 can help save your house from foreclosure.  A Chapter 13 can stop the repossession of your car.

If a creditor starts coming after you, are you going to crawl into a shell or are you going to snap back?  Call me today for your free consultation and let’s come up with a plan that works for you.
